Well, I dont trust any thermostat on a cheap heater.

I use a Ranco temperature controller that I connect my heater to,

Ouy of all the heaters I have used I have found EboJager to be the closest.

I don't use glass heaters at all anymore. Titanium heaters aren't very expensive and much safer IMO.

I have a ton of Visitherms and Tetras, never had an issue :/

Though I am looking to replace them cause well, that thin little glass thing just scares me!

I agree with the above folks on titanium. I currently have a visitherm heater and will replace it with a titanium one when it goes out.

The Won Pro-Heat Titanium I (as opposed to II) does NOT have a digital display, and as far as I know, have never had any problems. I have 2 of them...one for each tank, and me likey very much!! The one in my 180 has been there for 4 years without a single problem.

That's my experience, fwiw. :D

bangbang... I recently had a hagen that had the heating element in it go out, but the heating light stayed on.. made you think it was heating the tank when it didn't actually do anything. The heater was six months old when it died. I have never purchased another hagen since.

I use Ebo-Jagers in my nanos, and the visitherm in my 75, largely because I had no time to get a titanium heater when my hagen went out during the coldest portion of the winter, and it was costing us more than a heater to keep the house warm enough so that the tank wouldn't drop below 70 degrees. Visitherms were all that was available locally at the time, and I was lucky the LFS stayed open late so I could go get it.

Well, avoid the Wons with digitial read-outs for sure (I have to use a separate thermometer on the one I have (currently used to heat water change water). I've also heard lots of horror stories (bursting into flames, that sort of thing) so frankly I"d avoid them all together (sorry Chris and Laura!).

Ebo Jager are, as I believe all the young people are saying, "the bomb". though some people also believe them to be "the bomdiggity".

I have them now and no problems so far.

Sorry to hear that but none of mine have ever given me any trouble. Now can I return to the Sump?

All Glass = Hydor. They just repackaged them. I think that is the best heater around right now. The tronics are pretty nice too. The All Glass ones are shatter proof, and shut off when you take them out of the water.
