Total crash
I am dealing with an ick outbreak in my main tank (72 gal)
Currently treating with kick ick and hyposalinity.
Last nite I finished lowered the salinity to 1.013 at 80 degrees .. this was done over the corse of 5 nites the most recent change bringing it from 1.016 to its present level
The visible symptoms of ick were disappearing and color was returning to the sickest of the fish and all fish were breathing regularly and eating.
I also added some buffering solution as I had been for several weeks to try to raise my ph from 7.8
This morning I woke up to find my yellow tang, peppermint shrimp dead.
My 3 dominos gasping at the surface and extremely pale (I don’t think they are going to make it)
My only guesses are
1- Oxygen depletion – as I have my skimmer off to maximize the kick ick treatment and the powerhead I count on to break the surface was totally submerged due to me being a moron perhaps they died of co2 poising.. evidence of this is the 3 damsels gasping at the tim (I have turned my skimmer on to re-oxygenate)
This seems strange to me as I did a 9 gal water change last nite and at most they had 10 hours without my oxygenation system working right
2- ph issues.. my ph has been impossible to bring up and it may be that eh kh buffering I have been attempting is actually driving ph down (will be able to look at water chemistry when I get home)
3- i dont know
if anyone can help me identify what has gone wrong or point me in right direction I would appreciate it as my tank it a total mess right now.
