I was just noticing today in my 3 month old tank that some purple coraline algae is finally starting to grow on my powerheads and the back glass...I was wondering how long that was going to take. Now if it will just overpower the green and brown algae I'll be alright...

I remember being excited about Coraline starting to grow also. Now I like the look of it so much that when I replumbed the other week and I had to drain a third of the tank down for about 6 hours it killed the coraline in that section of the tank. Man am I bummed about that....

I was reading somewhere that it isn't the lack of water that kacks the coraline when you drain down a tank but the exposure to the bright lights without the water's filtering effect actually "bleaches" the algae.

That was my experience when I turned my 55 into a sump...the coralline out of the water bleached white.

How long does it take to get a nice patch of coraline going anyway? I see some 1 year old tanks that look pretty good... mine only has a few specks and way too much of the brown and green hairy algae....after almost 4 months

It took about a year for mine to cover the back two walls of my tank, it did grow a lot faster when I was dosing with bi-onic

I've been using kent marine essential elemants and also kent calcium weekly....is the bi-onic better???

no idea, it was recomended to me by someone. I liked it

I stopped because it was expensive, but am about to start dosing again, just as soon as I do a round of tests

I'm noticing a huge coralline growth spurt when I change 5 gallons (of 40) every week.
