Me dad has bought a tank and we are picking it up on sunday. they have 2 clowns dont know there names. These clowns have ignored a anemone thats in there. The guy then told us he bought the wrong type for them. now i recently fegot my dad 50th bday so i made a deal with him i'll buy this new anemone that the clowns would go in. Now i looked on reefs.org library of compatibility under the Clownfish and Anemone Compatibility
title to find out which one to buy but one problem. I don;t know what type of clownfish they are.
but heres a pic

there to the bottom right.
Looks the bus eh?
woah just previewed it the picture has blown up 10* its size

also if ya can give us some hints on moving this. I see the sponge there that'll die by the air and the amount of rock aswell. That'll be a ***** to move

I see them....The Black and White Percula Clownfish, also known as the Black Perc, or Black Percula Clown Anemonefish, is normally found in association with anemones on the reefs of the Coral Sea. It can be found individually, or more commonly, in pairs or small groups within the same anemone such as Heteractis magnifica or Stichodactyla mertensii.

Ok ive just been doing some research on the names of tha anemones you gave me. That magnificia supposed to grow to 10" and is aggresive and the othe Stichodactyla mertensii grows to 1m and is a carpet.
now im in a kerfuffle now which one should i get for ma dad or none at all. Also will they be able to stay in this tank peacefully?

Keep in mind while researching that "Black Percula" are not Percula Clownfish, they are actually Amphiprion ocellaris.

They will do very, very well in your tank. They do not need an Anemone.

Besides which, just because you get an anemone they're known to host in is no guarantee they *will* host in it.

I've got a cinnamon clown that hosts under my cleaner magnet or in a fake anemone in my tank...

Bubble-tips are not a natural host for A. ocellaris but in my experience these Clownfish don't know that.

Bubbe-tips are also one of the least demanding of the hosting Anemone. That still doesn't mean they're easy though.

I'd suggest a hobbiest propogated Rose BTA if you're set on getting an Anemone. All of my mated A. ocellaris use Green hairy Mushrooms for a home.

There's no predicting Clownfish behavior in terms of finding a home. I know I could do it using a quaranteen tank. In a large reef there's no telling what it will find for a home.

If your dad is new to reefkeeping, I'd recommend you hold-off on the anemone for a while. The hairy mushrooms are much more hardy and a potential surrogate host (not that one is needed). If you're intent on getting an anemone I would stick with a BTA as Guy recommended as the other Pacific hosting species are generally considered more difficult to keep.

me da has done his h/w on the tanks so he knows wat to do. anyway the tank is okay he is topping it up and adding traces and supplements im actually surprised he is taking such care into it. the anemone already in there is on the move but thats because the rocks are different.
When we saw it in the guys tank it had bubble tips so, thats why im asking for other names. Aparently its the wrong type of bubble tip but meh?
