I have a 54 gal All-Glass Aquarium corner tank with built-in overflow. I have the Mega-Flow Sump model 1 by the same company that is made for this tank. The manufacturer suggests the use of an ASM G-1 protein skimmer, which they claim fits in the sump. The skimmer is rated for 100 gals. Does anyone have any comments on this skimmer? I was looking into the MRC skimmers as well but not sure if one will fit in my system and the MRC-1 is rated for 175 gals, which may be overkill in my case.

The ASM line of skimmers are great and very high value. MRC's skimmers are beckett types and they work great as well, but under a different principle then the ASM (which are needle wheels). MRCs need a larger pump, so electricity and heat goes up.

I wouldn't give too much though on the manufacturer listed gallons rating. It's almost always an arbitrary number. Both of these skimmers will work fine in your 54.

Thank you for your reply! I have heard from a couple of other people now only good things about this skimmer. Will get an ASM soon!

I got the ASM skimmer and it is on. The skim is a bit on the wet side. I currently have the setting at the suggested start point, which is high. At what level shoud it be set a to get it to work best? Help from anyone with this skimmer will be much appreciated since it did not come with instructions on how to use it. I also can't find web site for the manufacturer of this skimmer to get info on it.

I like to keep my muck production in between wet and dry.. The skimmate should be a nice tea green with a foul odor!! :D

I have used ASM skimmers and they are a great buy. good choice for the tank
