LFS owner is just getting started with a lighting company and has some introductory pricing. The fixtures are reputable. I need to know if 15" wide over a 12" tank is going to be a problem.

If so, is it unsurmountable? The fixture is the Corallife Aqualights Pro 48" hood with two metal halides and two PC.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated. I have a little while before I have to pull the trigger on the offer.

Peace

Kevin

Shouldn't be a problem.

You could always put potted plants arround the tank, they would love it!

Personally, if it was going to create lots of light overspill around the tank I would prefer not to go that route. It will work, but the aesthetics would concern me.

I agree. The extra glare will make it difficult for you to enjoy the animals.

A friend has this fixture over her 30g. ONLY the fixture hangs over the tank, not the lights. No glare, no wasted light and she had to turn the legs around to fit her tank, if that helps any.

I am probably wrong here, but I think a 30g is 36 x 12. The fixture hangs over the tank on all sides. On the front and back by about an inch and maybe less on the ends of the tank. The legs seem to be designed to go either way, so that it can fit on wider tanks. In her case, they just reversed the legs and it fit nicely.

I have a 55 gal. that is 13" wide with a Coralife 48" Aqualight Pro that is 15". I had to turn the legs inward to set on top, but it's seems to be doing fine. I don't get a lot of excess glare because there is a 3/4" gap between the edge of the unit to the actual lighting itself.

I have the 15" wide coralife with one 150w metal halide and 2 65w pc, over a 12" wide tank. My fixture is hanging from the ceiling on cables 12" form the tank and the light does not seem to be any worse than any others I have seen in this hanging configuration.
