hi,
im new to salt water,do u think this equipment is going to allow me to have a FO tank, and maybe when i get some experiance and time in the hobby some coral or snails and shrimp,or could i have the claners now, there doesnt seem to be any thing to clean up in my tank though,so??? i have:
35 g sw,
deltec mc 500,
fluval 305,
2 aquaclear 70 power heads,
2 200w heaters,
18 lbs of cured lr,
1 inch bed of crushed argonite sand,
and i think 1 30 watt marine white,and 1 30w daylight light
i also have a 2 stage ro unit
i have being cycling for 3 weeks now and ive read 3 books and visted every pet shop in dublin, and ive also being on the internet researching all the time i get,but i still need a straight answer on this equipment,i bought it in a lot of different places so it would be kool to know if i really am on the right track like the lfs says, and yes its all in the tank and running

any reply would be greatly appriciated
cheers dave

Looks fine Dave, but what fishes do you plan to keep? My concern would be the canister filter, which can act like a nutrient factory (excess nutrients can cause algae problems) if they aren't maintained and cleaned regularly. I'd upgrade to a protein skimmer at some point and ditch the canister filter as the skimmer truly exports excess nutrients out of the tank.

You also need to keep an eye on the total bioload (waste etc) when you plan what type of fish you want and not overload the tank.

Ditto to what Lawdawg says about the skimmer. Looks like you are on the right track. Keep on reading.

hi thanks for the reply,
i have a deltec mc 500 skimmer,i dont think its top of the range but it cost me 350 euros and thats fairly expensive over here so i hope i wasnt ripped off,im hoping to keep 2 clown fish babys that i hope will grow and some damsels(1 or 2) i think these are both easy fish to take care of so thats what ill start with, people tell me that i can have about 8 to 10 fish,do u think this is a reasonable number for this size tank, have u any othere suggestions,i really love flame angels but i was told there hard to feed and there really expensive here so i might have to wait for one of them

im kinda worried about my lighting and current set up,i have 1 30 w marine white and 1 30 w daylight,im looking into making a custom hood that will house 4 lights because i cant afford metal halade just now,i have 2 aqua clear power heads one facing up to the surface and one facing towards my bigger pile of live rock to get some flow around it,what do u think?????

p.s. are the messages im sending to long? :?

I think your lighting will be fine for a FO tank and maybe even some softies such as mushrooms. If you do decide to go to lps and sps corals, you will need ALOT more light.

Hi
Looks good - just one suggestion - from the camera angle you have used the live rock looks closely stacked & from what I have read I believe it would benefit from a more open layout to allow better circulation around and through it you also would have more fish hiding places.
I have a Fluval too and intend to phase it out in the end with live rock, good circulation & the best skimmer I can afford.

Well, Deltec is a good skimmer, Ive never owned one but have heard good things.

8-10 fish is WAY TOO MANY for the size tank you have! A pair of clownfish + 1-3 others is about the max you should try and keep. The more fish, the more waste they produce...saltwater tanks are more delecate than freshwater in terms of nutrient export. The more waste you have, the more yucky algae and water quality issues you'll get!

As far as teh lighting, unless you plan on keeping corals or an anemone for your clowns what you have is fine. In a fish only tank lighting isn't as important as it is in a reef tank.

And no, the length of your messages are just fine

HTH....
