Hi,

Sorry, snails aren't the most interesting and exciting topic but I have an update you may be able to assist me with. My snails have been a bit more active. The one thing that concerns me is that each morning I wake up and find a snail on the sand that has fallen off a rock. They are usually upside down so I pop them back over before I leave for work. They don't seem to be disintigrating or dying but seem like they can't stay stuck to the rockwork. I just tested my water this moring Ammonia 0, Nitrate 0, Nitrite 0, Temp 78 SG 1.024. Nothing seems to be wrong...should I be concerned and keep flipping the snails over, or do they recover on their own? I definately don't want to leave them in the tank if they are going to croak and pollute the water. btw, I have two small clowns and a peppermint shrimp that are very healthy. Thanks ----Rob

I was going to ask exactly the same thing. Not all my snails seems to do it but one or two every so often. Because of their shape I'm sure they'd be screwed if I didn't help them.

Ditto to the above - I'm working on the possibility that it may be related to dissoved oxygen so I'm investing in more powerful pumps to turn over 10x the volume of the tank per hour and increased aeration (already have a venturi skimmer.) Could be barking up the wrong tree but I'm sick of picking up snails every morning. Please let me know if you find a cure.

It happens to me all the time... I take a coat hangar and just move them back to a rock. If they are grazing normally it's not a problem. I think the issue is the very fine sand. They can't get traction to top the shell back.

I think that some snails never acclimate properly and are therefore weak. I had this problem in my last aquarium and it was always the same small group of snails which eventually died. The ones that did not fall seemed to do well and lasted a long time. I acclimated them using the drip method in my new aquarium and have NEVER had one fall off of the glass or rockwork. But of course this is just my thoughts, take it for what it's worth.
