I want to hard plumb my 35 gal on the first floor to my 120 gal directly beneath it in my basement, can I run them both thru one 30 gal sump with one skimmer and one pump? Its about 11 vertical feet, the 120 is not up and running yet,I have a aqua-c180 fed by mag 7 and a 30rlt for my returns the 120 has 2 x 3/4 in returns. Seems like it should work what do you think?

You can, but I think you will have issues. To make it work you could go sump to upper tank then drain to basement tank then drain to sump. I think you would end up with lots of bubbles in your 120. Also, I think you would need a bigger sump. I think a better way to go would be to have a pump for each tank and a bigger sump. They could share the same skimmer and gear like that.

ok, I like the idea of making one system out of both or would it be better to just add a big sump to the 30 gal and leave the 120 separate

I would plumb the two tanks to one large sump unless you have a reason for wanting to keep them separate (ie. keeping species that require different water conditions, etc.).

If it were me. I would have one big sump and tie them together except for the reasons Chris stated.
