I just purchased some kalkwasser and aqua dosed it in my tank. However, I'm not too sure how often I should be doing this. If I had to guess I suppose I would add it everytime I lose water due to evaporation. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Generally kalkwasser is dosed as needed to maintain Ca and Alk levels. Another bounding factor on doseages can be the effect it has on system pH. Dosing too much too quickly can be harmful to your tank (drives pH too high). The only way to know how much your system requires (or can tolerate) is to monitor Ca/Alk and pH levels. Many folks have nuked their systems being careless with kalkwasser and overdosing so use it with caution.

It's certainly possible to topoff 100% of your evaporation with kalkwasser, but depending on your system's Ca/Alk demand it may not be necessary to use a fully saturated solution. Also, in some cases a fully saturated solution can push system pH too high. In that case you'd need to use a less potent solution. If your system's evaporation rate varies signficantly throughout the year (fairly common on most systems) it may be more practical to handle evaporation topoff separately from kalk dosing.

Yeah my tank evaporates a little under a gallon a day. So I'll just keep that seperate. Nice thanks for the information. :)
