I have a piece of Tonga branch in my tank that is just getting overtaken with hair algae and I was wondering if there were any fish other than tangs that would eat that. I dont really have room or want a tang in the tank so any suggestions would be great. Thanks a bunch

I would suggest snails. Mexican turbos do a good job. How are your levels? Algae is usually the indication of excess nutirants.

yea hair algae is HARD to eradicate. i have only been successful by starving it of light for about 3 or 4 months.

The only way I've been able to kill it off successfully has been nutrient limitation and lots and lots of time and patience. Good luck, I know how much of a frustration it can be.

I had a lot of success with hermits, put 40 into my 385GA and they fixed the hair problem in 3-4 days... other folks seem to have had mixed results with them.....my problem now is feeding them now they have eaten all the algae!

I bought a Lawnmower Blenny but he never took to eating hair algae so it must be the luck of the draw - now I have a very thin Blenny I'm trying to get to eat and have reduced the hair algea by bringing Phosphate levels down to near zero with Rowaphos in a cannister filter.

I finally got rid of mine.

Carbon and Phos-x in a canister replaced weekly. Started straining my frozen brine shrimp. Only fed the fish what they ate. I just throw a couple pieces in at a time. The fish would not let any hit the ground.

Turbo Snails and my Lawnmower Bleeny also helped out nicely.

Good Luck
