I got a leather cup corals about a week ago, it only started to open up now. the problem is it's hanging to the side and won't "stand up" is this normal? All test is good and I'm running 3 39w t5's.

Hi Regal

I have a similar problem with a leather pincushion that is lying flat and has 'folded' itself into the gap between two pieces of LR. It is dull grey colour and hasnt opened in the 10 days it has been in the tank... all water parameters are perfect and the tank is heavily lit. I watch in interest the responses you get as they will be relevant to my current problem.

Hope you sorted the car problems out!

hi andy, my leather is opening nicely now and again, the problem is, it is leaning over and when it is close it is "standing" nicely. There is also a small one on the same piece of dead coral, that I want to remove(not sure how yet) as the big one will be touching it soon.

Is it possible your coral was already dieing when you bought it?

p.s. the merc is up and running again, but the project car's damage seems to be worst than we though, I now have to remove the whole motor and redo the complete wiring loom(this is a really **** job)

picture of my leather hanging over(notice how much strain he is putting on his stool)

I bought a similar leather about a week ago and have found by trial and error that it likes only gentle flow and is fully open/extended quite near the bottom of my tank under 4 x T5 lights so I don't think it needs very bright light.
I would experiment with a few different positions with different light and flow levels and let it show you when it is happy. HTH

I fragged my toadstool before and used scissors to cut it and loosely rubberband to a rock. Make sure it's loose b/c if too tight, it will gel up and die. Within 2 weeks it was attached to the rock. HTH

do I then just cut the small one off at the "stool" and the re-attach it to a pice of rock?

Basically yes. Use a sharp cutting device so you get a claen cut. Attack it loosly to a new rock and put it in t low flow area for a couple of weeks.

I would try proping up the larger one with a rock.

ok, i took of the little one and placed in on top a piece of rock, a also put an 2L coke bottle where the bottom was cut off on top of it, to cover it from any circulation inside the tank.

Will this work????

You still need the circulation just not heavy current. You don't want to smother it. Just put it in a more low lying area where you don't have ALOT of flow.

you will notice i made some sort of opening in the bottle in the pic.
i have 3 of those size holes, there is flow there, but not a very strong one.
