I feed heavily. I serve them a main meal that consists of one cube of either frozen formula one or prime reef along with some frozen krill and some lancefish. I also have an auto feeder that drops is some flake food twice per day. I also put a clip or nori in the tank every other day or so. And to top it all off, I give them some cyclopeeze every once in awhile.

Now that I read all of what I just wrote, perhaps I overfeed.

Freeze Dried Mysis every day. Frozen brineshrimp once every couple of days. I just try to feed my tank these zooplankton critters to simulate a more natural diet. They dont really get flake food.

I feed my fish and corals a "blender custom" food every day. My naso tang is 100% vegfetarian so it gets nori strips daily to.

Interesting post!

I've discovered that my purple long tentacle anemone and my rose bulb tip anemone seem to LOVE Wardley's Shrimp Pellets Formula. I tossed a few in for the cleaner shrimp/hermit crabs, but when peices land on the anemones and my mushrooms they seem to love it. 8O The anemones seem to prefer them to table shrimp anyway! So, does anyone see a problem with anemones & 'shrooms sharing shrimp pellets with the shrimp and crabs every now and again??

Ooops! Another question. I feed DT's Premium Live Phytoplankton -- one ounce every other day per the manufacturer's recommendations for my corals (12 blue 'shrooms & a green frog spawn) & my feather dusters. I turn the protein skimmer off when I first put the stuff in, but . . . how long should I leave the skimmer off???

I have added a 5 gallon HOB refugium in which I've placed 12 pounds of Fiji Mud Refugium Starter, 5 pounds of GARF Grunge, and 4 oz of Oceanpods. Will some of the phyotoplankton hang out and reproduce in the refugium along with the copepods? (I poured the other 4 oz of Oceanpods directly into the tank itself).

Anyone know of a good source for amphipod cultures?? Would they reproduce in the refugium without harming my expensive little copepods?

Thanks for any input!

Acchh!

I've no end of questions today!

What do you guys do for those fish who are supposed to be feed 3 or more times per day like some of the gobies and anthias?

I'm feeding spirulina enriched frozen brine shrimp, omega-3 enriched frozen brine shrimp, frozen mysis shrimp, and Hikari Marine-S in no particular pattern 2 - 4 times daily when I am home (~20 days/month) and once daily when I work (~10 non-consecutive 24 hour shifts/month). My Nitrates are O, Nitrites are O, Ammonia is 0, phosphate 0.5, kH 11, pH 8.2, Ca++ 460. I change 10 gallons weekly (95 gallon tank with 5 gallon 'fuge) with ReefCrystals consitituted with r/o DI water and add 5 ml of Purple Up sporadically (once every week or two).

My Flame Angel is big on corprophagia, and my assorted shrimp and hermit crabs always seem to be starving. I increased the depth of my sand bed to 4" a few weeks ago by adding 30# of GARF grunge to the 80# of Live Aragonite Pink Fiji sand that was already in the tank. I have no slime algae, hair algae or diatoms that can be seen. My back glass is being encrusted by coralline algae (I scrape it off the front and sides), and my live rock is covered with caleurpa to the point that I'm having to harvest it out the main tank (I guess that's where the nitrates are going).

Are my feeding habits leading me and my pets down a short path to perdition, or should I just trust that I am doing the right things as long as my chemistries "look" right?

Don't let me drown myself in ignorance!

i've been alternating foods. don't know if you could call that "treats" or not, but i alternate between formula B (full spectrum frozen cube), flake, some silverside bits, krill bits. i mix it up to keep 'em guessing
i also have this stuff called "trigger formula" which everyone seems to love. btw. i don't feed any fish 3 or more times a day. i feed twice, morning and evening. my fuge also spills some critters in the tank.
