So two things. First off I got a sweet flame scallop (yes I am aware of them not being cared for correctly) thats why Im asking this questiong. When I put plankton (zoo and phyto) into the tank, will the protein skimmer take it back out....essentially robbing the system.....or will it not effect it. I may be paying 20 bucks for plankton only to be throwing it out with the skimmer water.

Secondly I have an awesome tale. I went to the store and wanted to get a grouper. So I dont know much about EVERY species of grouper cause theirs a ton of them. So I found a really cool grouper that said SKUNK GROUPER 35 dollars. So I was like Ill take it. The guy got it out and bagged it and said "what the" I was like what? He said this was a miniatus grouper that had been tagged wrong. Of course little old me was like .....so...... Anyways he was a dumb kid so he gave it to me for 35 dollars and it would normally run 65. I was like SWEET!!!! Its really cool and eats well. The only problem is he hides a lot but i guess he will get used to me. (I think he was caught in the wild)

Yes, the skimmer will pull out phyto, so you would want to be sure to turn off the skimmer for a bit if you are feeding something with phyto plankton. Zooplankton type foods usually make my skimmer go nuts as well, so the same would apply, although I was pretty sure that scallops only feed on phytoplankton.

You do realize that fish gets to be about a foot long, and will quickly outgrow your 55 gallon tank?
