I live in Florida and had the same idea. I found out that you can't touch anything around the reef's here they will throw you under the jail for that one.

I had gotten fiji rock to start my tank.. then came across this guy.. got a few pounds of his rock.. amazing stuff! So much more life on it than the fiji rock that I had gotten originally... I really wish I had found his first.. I wouldn't have bothered with the fiji!

fast shipping and great communication through the entire sale.. he also answered all of my questions with no problems.

hope this helps!

I got mine shipped overnight.. sent him an email with my zipcode and asked for a quote for the amount of rock I wanted... here is what he sent back as the quote: For 5 pounds shipped priority overnight the cost is $34, and for 10
pounds
the same way it's $46. The first pound costs about $22 and it's
roughly $3
a pound after that for the next 15-20 pounds, then goes down slightly.
standard overnight if it's available would be a few dollars less, and
two day air would be about 1/3 less.

so that would be your best bet.. send him an email with your zipcode and ask for a quote since I am not sure how much it would vary with your zip code. I know his livestock are a flat $25. for shipping..

It did arrive via Fed-ex right to my door.. he also sent me a tracking number so I would know when to expect it.
I'll be ordering livestock next week.. (probably Wednesday).. so since it's late in the week; I don't expect him to ship it until the following week.. I will keep you updated though on how that turns out if you like.

I also found out some background info on him (the owner) if you're interested... http://www.gulfbase.org/person/view.php?uid=knedimyer
and he also sells on eBay (includes a way to combine eBay wins with purchases in the shopping cart) eBay: old.diver http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZold.diverQQhtZ-1

yeah.. I have too much time on my hands...

that rock looks very nice, but it doesn't seem cost effective. i saved the ebay info though!
i was curious about Fla. rock because i figured it would be considerably cheaper due to it being somewhat local.
i mean, i'm sure everyone knows how crippling a substantial live rock purchase is.
i have plenty of local vendors with nice rock, just wanted a deal. :(

well.. if you're taking a road trip.. it would definately be worth your while...

but considering what I paid for half dead Fiji rock.. and what I paid for the very live florida rock.. if I had it to do over again.. I would get the florida!

I got the fiji first.. and it's pretty much still dead... it was supposedly cured.. but I don't even have feather dusters on it and coralline is basically non existant.. the florida rock has feather dusters, sand polyps, sponges (which are still doing fine) not to mention more sponges popping out on it, a couple small mermaid's shaving brushes.. and halimeda .. even has a baby brain coral which is doing great and so much more coralline! .. so yeah... I still prefer the florida rock that I got!

I even ended up with some fiji from a local person's tank.. she had it for over two years.. the florida is still better!

that sounds great. with all those creatures i mean. on the live rock here you get basically coralline, a few copapods maybe, possibly a bristleworm or two...a sponge-like creature if your lucky. i don't see corals on LR here.
not very often anyway.

well.. I was really surprised.. and as far as it being uncured... my ammonia spiked with the figi to almost 9.. with the florida rock it spiked to about 1.5 (didn't make it to 2)...
