hello all, I was wondering if there is any product that i can use to get rid of cloudy water. i just filled my tank today and put in a heap of calcium carbonate into the tank as well as 4 inches into the bottom of the sump. I spent a lot of time washing it but it still seems very cloudy?is it normal for the water to stay cloudy for a few hours after ? its been almost 5 hours since i put the stuff in , any tips would be great!!!

Blue tang. ps hope to have some photo's soon. :?

:( The only thing that will clear the water is time Blue Tang. It's quite normal for it to be cloudy. It takes a day or two for the finer particles to become waterlogged and settle down. The only thing that I have found to speed that process up is to use canister filters or powerheads with filter floss socks on the intake to try and get some of the gack filtered out of the tank. Even then it still takes time.

Another method I have used (too late for you now for for future reference) is to "presoak" the substrate, meaning I put the substrate into the tank, put water in that just barely covered it and left it alone for 48 hrs before I added the rest of the water.

FWIW, I usually don't skim while it's settling down because those fine particles can plug up the venturi/needle wheel of a skimmer and I'm too lazy to put that much work into it ;)

Well, I don't have any tanks ATM due to a blow up of my domestic situation-that's a nice way of saying I had to sell off most everything because my 'ex' is an idjit  and I'm too broke now to set anything back up. But there are plenty of old threads with my tanks in them around here. Makes me sad just looking at them :(

Here's a link to a thread about the last nano I did for the contest...

Here's one regarding bangaiis cardinals I was fortunate to have spawn in one of my tanks:

I am sorry to hear that. Hopefully, everything worked out for the best???
You had a very nice tank. I never seen a tube anenome before, it was really cool looking. I liked the rock work. I assume it was glued into place or something. How do you go about glueing live rock together? In a different thread you mentioned you were pursuing a nursing degree, how is that going so far?
