Well my powder blue has been nipping at my sailfin tangs fins. My sailfin still eats but is looking a bit skinny. I have had him for about 8 months, and the PB for about 2 months. One of them must go. I like the both equal. The PB is prettier, but the sailfin is part of the family..... Any thoughts guys???

What I meant was the powder blue will only grow to about ten inches and the sailfin will reach 15 inches as adults. The PBT will stay smaller.

It's definately a tough choice. PB Tang are known to be aggressive whereas Sailfin Tangs are known to peaceful. That gives the Sailfin 1 point. On the other hand, the Sailfin Tang isn't as pretty as the PB Tang. Score's tied now. Sailfin Tang gets a bit bigger than the PB Tang. PB is in the lead now with 2 points. Personally I would feel bad to give away the good fish over the bad fish. Sailfin gets another point. On a last note. if you were to get rid of the Sailfin Tang, it is more likely to readjust itself to a new tank then a PB Tang since PB Tangs are more sensitive and more difficult to care for than Sailfins. PB gets the final point.

In terms of keeping the fish, PB Tang is the winner by one point. Those are my thoughts. Your choice now.

You may have to consider which one is most likely to survive. As cold as it would seem I would lean toward keeping the most healthy fish in my tank.

All valid points for sure... On the health issue PB is currently healthier do to picking at the sailfin. Sailfin is a more peaceful fish and has been with me for awhile now. I dont like the idea of getting rid of the "good" fish. It almost seems wrong.

As of right now, my plan is to take the PBT back in the AM. So with that said here is what will happen. I will take the PBT back and within a few days my sailfin will die. That is worst case scenario, but i have a plan to fatten my sailfin up again.

He still eats, and I will put a large amount of calupra in the tank tomorrow. Hopefully within a few days he will be a little bigger.. Thanks guys..

Oh yeah, for the size issue Sailfin gets the extra point IMO. Think about it......................Another excuse to get a larger tank down the road...

Well i tried for about an hour to catch the PB, and he is a trickster. I am not going to fish for him. I had to give up because in his attempts to avoid me he hit a rock and damaged a couple scales. I decided to give him a break and plan a night attack a different day...

             Well, after much internal debate I have made the decision to take back the sailfin tang. He is the family favorite, but if something does not happen he will die because of the PBT.

I give up!!!! Had the sailfin in the bag with about 1.5 gallons of water(big bag). My son jumps on the bag. Fish and wter everywhere. Sailfin back in tank, and appears fine. Perhaps i am not suppose to remove them..

Well like you said, you have to do something quick. The PB will keep on attacking the Sailfin until it's torn apart. I've seen videos of a pair of PB Tangs defending their territory in the wild against thousands of tangs that came to graze on their algae. If two will attack thousands, this guy's bound to do some serious damage to the Sailfin.

Well after trying to catch them i ended up taking a nap. I woke up and was suppose to take the family to the park, but thought I will try one more time on the PBT. Got him the first try. After explaining to the wife i left to the LFS. Now I have the battle of getting my sailfin fat. He still eats the same(aggressive). Just need to up feedings and add some alge sheets and calupra and he will be fine, i hope.

The seaweed will fatten him up in no time. My Sailfin Tang honestly fights with its seaweed. It's like watching the herbivore version of a shark tearing apart a fish. This tang tears apart the seaweed.

if you ever care to purchase another tang in the future, you will have trouble with the powder blue. also, my pajama/clown tang attacks my lawnmower blenny over the seaweed clip. this really bothers me, and makes me want to type that possibly, the powder blue might harrass ANY new members of the reef crew. i tend to want to remove any overly aggressive inhabitants. that being said...i believe the powder blue to be the prettier of the 2.
you might try 2 seaweed clips..one on either side of the tank for starters.

Mr. X you had better remove the pajama tang, you don't want him to harrass blen anymore, it would be worth the effort to take him out IMO/IME, hey if he needs a new home i have just the place for him I also have a beautiful powder brown who is totally not aggressive, wanna trade! lol

Thanks X. I added a birdsnest coral which can be viewed on the general discussion forum under pics from dnorton. I am going to add a couple more fish and corals over the next month.

Again, I did catch the PBT and took him back yday.. Salifin is eating and already looks happier.

Has the thought ever occur to you that you need another tank? Your kids and the PBT will thank you for it!

(..........not sure about your wife though......)
