i've gotten macros from 4 places so far. i wanted it this way, instead of taking one persons and growing them myself, because i wanted alittle bit of the tiny livestock residing in each refugium i came in contact with.
that being said, i'm always spotting something new and interesting.

My question is: i just noticed some small starfish in my fuge. they are white and have brittle star bodies. will these grow to the large brittle stars we see in local stores? or are they a certain small species known only to refugiums?

some pics below, one partial of one of the stars in mention, and just some random others....

The sea stars look like a species of Amphiphoslis, harmless herbivore/detrivores. They do not grow much bigger than that.

those gross looking pink things with bristles spiking out of them are bristle worms. No big deal if they are in your refuge.

i noticed this morning i have a few small bristle worms in my display tank i have heard that they are fairly harmless and then others have said that they should be removed can anyone offer advise on the matter, i currently don't have a sump,it's a work in progress. i have a 55G with about 55 to 65 pounds of LR, a few feather dusters, a small colony of red mushrooms, one false percula, engineer goby, blue damsel, spotted cardinal, and a serpent star, the tank has been running for about a year and a half to two years.

TIA,
David

i have bristle worms in my display. they don't bother anything. i hear once they get huge, they might cause issues, however, i knew a woman who had one about 8 inches in her display and he caused no trouble. get an arrow crab if you don't like them. they are supposed to eat the small ones. i just picked one up tonight as a matter of fact. we'll see what he's capable of.
