As some may know, this is our first marine tank. My sons (5 and 9) are doing most of the work as this is their tank. They are both very proud as I am of them. I get to do the heavy stuff and put up the cash but they have all the creative and purchase suggestions. They also keep all the logs and assist with all the maintenance work. We are using this time to study science math and other items that arise from the work. They have been quite careful to study and ask questions. I have to say not only I am learning too but I am having a great time. This is lots of fun and I recommend more moms and dads spend this kind of time with their kids. the rewards are awesome.

Here are a couple pics of their tank.

That is somethng we understand. These guys are very carefull in watching the water condition. We have just ordered some more test kits. In addition to PH, SG, AMon, nitrite and nitrate, we are going to add phos and cal to the list. We are looking for a good RO/DI unit that we can afford, until then we are going to start using supermarket RO water. so far our levels have been on average..

PH - 8.1
SG - 1.023
amm - 0
trite - 0
trate - <1
temp 78f

We wont be adding anything new now for at least 3-4 weeks. We have talked about getting some corals. I have a friend who has a leather that he wants to prune down and some mushrooms he needs to harvest. If the water has no sudden changes in the nest 4 weeks we might be ready to get the corals. Time will tell.

And thanks for the reminder.
