Pocket guide? A PocketExpert Guide to Marine Invertebrates by Ronald L. Shimek might be what you're looking for. But it's a little vague, I think.

Check out:
Corals by Julian Sprung
Aquarium Corals by Eric Borneman
The Reef Aquarium Series by Charles Delbeek and Julian Sprung

Once we move past the pocket guide point and wanted to know more about the ecology behind inverts and micro fauna/flora which book would be best?

Personally I couldn't get bye without Sprungs "The Marine Aquarium" VOLS 1 and 2.

There is a VOL 3 out, but haven't had a chance to pick one up yet

Definitely check out the books I listed and another great, great book is Reef Invertebrates by Anthony Calfo and Bob Fenner. Lots of info on crustaceans (micro and macro), mollusks, echinoderms, worms, sponges, and algaes. Good info on refugiums and live sand/rock also! :D
