Hey lighting experts, When i first got into salt I bought a light that isn't suitable for what I want to do. I have an orbit with 4X96 watt power compacts.

this week I am upgrading my light. I want to keep clams at some point in all of this.

I have looked at a light with 4X96 watt power compacts plus 3X150 watt metal halides. it is over 800 watts on a 125 gallon tank. is this suitable for clams?
or would it just be better to get the same light with 3 250's in it instead?

any help would be appreciated
thanks the shavs

It's not so much the total wattage, but the intensity levels that actually make it to the clam (the reflector plays a big role there). It also depends on what species of Tridacnas you're thinking about and where you want to keep them in the tank. T. Max and T. Crocea require lots of light. If you want to be able to place them anywhere in the tank I'd go with 250s.
