I just added a coral banded shrimp to my FOWLR tank. Do I need to worry about iodine levels for molting? I don't have a test kit for iodine so I don't know what my level is. Thanks.

well go get one, but I think for the most part with water changes your Iodine level should be fine, you can add iodine if you want to suppliment a little.

Despite what a lot of people say, I'm not really sure that shrimp even absorb that stuff from the water. I think it's injested. I've kept skunk cleaner shrimp for a couple years and I've never had a problem. It molts every few weeks right on schedule. Just make sure it gets a healthy diet.

Iodine tests are iffy as well (as far as I understand, and last readup on it/discussed it with knowledgeable people).

There is enough iodine in proper water changes (and some like Instant ocean far exceeds).

In addition, using products like b-ionic also add some trace iodine.

As well as the poster before me wrote, there is some q about how much these creatures need.

I would vote against dosing, and instead just doi proper, on time water changes.
