I have 100G display tank with a 40G sump tank and i have been looking around for a good skimmer.

I've read here and other places that, Euroreef, AquaC and ASM skimmers are really reliable skimmers, but i have a question.

The ASM skimmers are a few hundred $$ cheaper than the Euro's or Aqua's...i guess what im trying to make sure is if i get an ASM because its not as expensive will i be selling my self short in the long run and be hurting later because i didnt pick up the Euro or Aqua?

I'll be getting a skimmer that can do 200Gph in any case

Thanx for the replies and help in advance.

ASM's are nice skimmers.. ur right. The price diff comes in pump type and construction. I don't own one, but I believe the EuroReefs are made of heavier cast acrylic.

There is a choice in between the "economy" and the "premium" skimmers. I recently bought an Octopus Recirculating skimmer and am VERY happy with it. It seems to be a more sturdy than most ASMs and does a great job skimming.

Hope this helps out. Just some ideas.

Take care and good luck!

well thanks for the reply snowman, I just don't want to buy the more expensive skimmer if i don't have to when i can buy a good sufficient skimmer and i can use that extra money towards nice lighting setup

again, appreciate the reply.

i had 2 ASM skimmers and i was/am very happy with them. i believe it's like the old toyota/mercedes analogy:

mercedes will actually cost you more than toyota to maintain, and the toyota will most likely last longer, but mercedes is still much more expensive.
the skimmers are designed the same, and will produce the same amount of skimmate. euro-reef uses sedra pumps (the same pumps that were/are on my ASM). like SMS said, it may just be a slightly heavier guage acrylic that is the difference, so if you buy an ASM skimmer, don't throw it out your second floor window, otherwise, you'll be fine with either.
