BUG BOMBS!!!!

OK, here is the problem, my fuge has become a spawning pool for these knats or flying bugs of some sort. There used to be a few of them now there are seriously millions of them. There is a coating on the ground behind my tank of all the dead ones on the ground. I had an exterminator come out and said he couldn't do anything with it. I went out and got these bug bombs but it says to cover tanks and keep animals out and stuff.

I was going to shut my tank down and use shrink wrap and cover everything up then bombs away.

Anybody ever have to do deal with this before? Bugs multiplying in the fuge? is there any other options here??

I noticed these little buggers a while ago when my step brothers had Geckos and had them on cedar wood. They never cleaned it and it got all stinky and I think the bugs came from them. (not sure though). Anyhow, they are concentrated under my tank at the fuge. literally thousands of them. I have cats and a dog and fish. The product says to cover and shut down all aquariums and remove animals. I am just nervous about doing this but something has to be done quickly. Just wondering if anybody has had to fumigate while not removing the tank and if everything lives after. I plan on wrapping the tank in plastic wrap unless anybody has any better ideas.

Have you thought of lots of fly paper around the fuge
(but away from lights of course) until you don't notice anymore?

what about dismantling the sump? take your macros out and put them in a bucket of clean salt water(as a matter of fact, wash them out in saltwater) and totally clean out your sump, then start fresh. bug problem gone. :wink:

Bugbomb sounds like overkill and risky to me. I like the flypaper idea, and even spot spraying an insecticide would broadcast less poison everywhere. Can you post a pic of them? I get little water-loving fly-things around my terarrium sometimes and was curious if they're the same critters.

shavs....if you want to clean your sump like i mentioned, i'll give you a massive amount of my refugium sand bed and rock rubble. you won't lose any critters, for i have a plethora of creepy crawlies :wink:

Haha thought you meant IN the tank....cover the tank spray bottom with ant killer or such....or else take tank down and move it and clean it man don't want bugs in your house....

I've used bug bombs before and just covered my tanks with comforters. Everything was fine.

If you really want to go the extra mile take your air intake on your skimmer and extend it to run out of slightly opened window to draw in freshair from outside to help combat any pH problems and such from having the tank so tightly buttoned up.

I always put the animals outside and keep their food covered. Never had any problems.

I think i have to bug bomb, paper strips won't cut it. They gather at the fuge but they are all over the basement, it is getting like the biblical plagues. I will just turn off the skimmer I don't run 24/7 like ya'll do.

but X I'll still take your fuge critters!!
