My PSE&G IS OFF THE MAP

My bill this month for power was 400.00 I have a 30 gal reef tank with

1-96 watt pC
1-130 PC
A 200watt heater
Two powerheads
One Skimmer
One pump

I keep the lights on for about 12 hours

Could this be whats making me pay out my ##@! for power
Also I have a 24' round poll with a pump that runs for hours if not days

Could I cut back the light whats the min for soft coral shrooms and polyps

It's not your reef tank that's doing that.

running 4X50' watts at least 12 hrs
Skimmer, pump, Fan - and our bill isn't near that.

If your in NJ - don't the "average biling" for PSEG.

And it also depends on the size of your house, but you already knew that.

two possible explainations:
I, you have your AC on all day.
II, your neighbor is growing pot using your electricty.

Dude PSE&G will kill you.

They were my provider from Jul-06 to Jun-07 and your better off running a chiller than your AC.

I had to hold two households last year due to work...my 2500 sq ft home was cheaper to keep cool than a 1 bedroom apt. in NJ.

Forget about winter hope you don't use gas for heat!

If you do Get an electric heater and blanket and stay in one room.

My roommate left the heat on in the apt for almost a month and we had a $350.00 elec&gas bill. I wasn't even there and neither was he.

If you post the total KWH used (should be on your bill) and which powerheads, skimmer and pump you're running I can tell you about how much of your bill was due to your tank.

I can already tell you it won't be very significant compared to your house A/C and swimming pool... :wink:

I live in an apartment with 200 watts lightin....200 watt heater...3 powerheads... we leave the AC on all day everyday along with a fan in my room and usually the lights on too...

Our bill is $80 per month. Gotta love XCEL energy.

Did you just move into this aparment? I would ask some of the other people living there what their bills are like. If they seem lower than yours either you are doing something different or it sometimes is possible the apartment you are in has bad wiring which could cause overage....

but NOT $400!! CALL THEM AND COMPLAIN! BBB!

I live in Michigan. I think my bill (after tax) works out to about $0.10 per KWH. How does that compare to the rest of you?

I know my 30 gallon was worth about $5 per month over here.

Just a FYI.. they are going to increase our rates too.
