I am new to the Marine reef hobby. I will probably buy most of my live stock from Drs. Foster and Smith; they tout there advanced quarantine system. From your experiences with this company is it still advisable to quarantine new live stock? And do you also quarantine your new corals?

Thanks,

Matt

I have had good experiences with the livestock from liveaquaria.com, however it is always advisable to quarantine. I did not have as good of an experience with their other live fish business, eTropicals, and probably will not buy from them again.

More people are quarantining corals these days as well. With parasites like redbugs, nudibranches, flatworms, etc., you can never be too careful.

hey rjplt23, i'm in your area...shoot me a pm and we can chat. there are a lot of nice local fish stores in our area that i can tell you about if you haven't seen or heard of them.

btw quarantine everything if you can, no matter what. i know people that even quarantine live rock...guy found a nasty little crab during the quarantine process that could have really messed up his tank.

I second the recommendation to quarantine - particularly when buying "sight unseen" from online vendors like liveaquaria. IME their livestock is usually healthy but not always...
