Light for Fuge

Peps.. I'm buying some Cheato for the fuge.. along with 4" of sand and live rock pcs... (does that sound good btw???...)

My question is what type of light do I need for the fuge???

Sounds like a good plan for a fuge. I would just go with some 10K PC retrofits, and run them opposite the tank lighting. Should fit the bill. www.marinedepot.com has good prices or try www.ahsupply.com.

i would buy a 5 dollar clip on light from home depot and a 3.99 5000k energy saver bulb and your macros, and your wallet will thank you.

Ansphire- this light is more than sufficient for chaeto, live sand, and rock:

now, if you want to split the fuge and toss some frags in there...you could do something like this:

Mr. X- there is really no need to get prickly. As I said, your version will work as well. However, a 5K light does not replicate reef lighting in case the fuge will be used for anything else down the line, as they usually are, IME. Just trying to help plan ahead. Splitting them as your picture shows is a good option too, if people are lucky enough to have a large fuge such as yours.

btw, i also wanted to say what i said because i used a 10k light on my refugium before and it seemed the macros didn't like it. they grew alot better under a 6400k and 5000k bulb. i think the color does make a difference. go to a hydroponics website. they are not using 10k lighting for plants, but rather the lower spectrum. 3000-8000k

Great link Camoracer- it would be interesting to see where the sweet spot is for growing- since the experiment concluded that higher kelvin bulb temp resulted in an increase in growth...
