I am in the process of setting up a new mini-reef; I currently have a 2.5 yr-old nano, which is my 2nd nano-reef. I have 4 years experience in all. My tank specs are here: topic135428.html

The salifert tests being more than I can afford, I am using API's reef kit and checking behind it with "dip and read" strips. My calcium (in the new mini-reef tank) reads at 500 ppm, and the kh keeps going down; it's currently reading at 6 dkh. I have tried using Seachem's Reef Fusion 2 to bring up the kh, but it causes the ph reading on the strip to go too high, and the calcium is not coming down.

Can I gradually correct this using a baking soda solution? If so, how much should I dose?

Never mind; I found a well-written thread somewhere about NOT using baking soda. Can we pretend I never asked?

I dosed again with the product I have; the kh and pH are good. Now I can sleep peacefully.
