Your tank will function fine on 1/2lb per gal, or 1lb per gal, or even 1.5lb per gal. It really comes down to the look you want. I actually like less rock, which allows for more water flow, and more room for coral growth.

I have a 120 with a 25 gallon sump and I started with 75lbs of rock. Everyone said this was not enough, but no matter how much rock you have, you still have to stock slowly. Rock is just a place for the good bacteria to live. It does not create bacteria.

Also, a little bit of very porous rock is better than a lot of very solid rock.

Keep in mind that you will end up adding rock as pieces that you buy may be attached to rock when you buy them.
