Are there any clam species that would be best suited for keeping in a 55 gallon with 260 watt power compacts? Guy in lfs said would be ok, but I was under impression that clams needed mh.

Good and first impressions are always the ones that are most true - clams do best under halide lighting - especially the harder to keep ones

James Fatheree presented at this years MACNA and found maxima (tridacna) as far down as 60 feet (20m) and they usually are found in the shallows.

This begs the question Deanos has presented - how healthy is the animal, how stable/appropriate are your water parameters

Then I would worry about how they will feed (photsynthesis in lighting) or plankton feeding.

I would say from experience with PCs you are better off not doing so.

I have kept them with PC lighting but what do I know.

Look at the tank pic I have 2 PC fixtures on it wich is about 260w

Jay has been very successful in keeping a clam in a tank with PC lighting.

Jay is also a kick@$$ reefer!!!
