well, if posting some info is what you consider stentorian, that's fine. I'll take that. If you would rather be spoken to in sound bites, I can do that too. But I usually like to back up info.
Your pic on post one is not an indication of a "refugium working very well indeed". I'm not sure what Bush has to do with it, but since he's blamed for everything else, why not call your algae problem his fault?
Post in the newbie section, you'll be given the sound bite you would like to hear. "add a refugium... it worked wonders for me" and I guarantee that person will not post a pic. Go in the advanced forum, you'll get an explanation of how and why to do something based off experience and pics to back it up.
I thought by your original post of this thread that you were looking for some help. As a member of a discussion forum, I thought I would throw some things out there that I have experienced and what I think would work for you.
My bad, Mario. You're tank looks great and there isn't much I can do to help you out.
Mario..providing MH lighting for 10 hours a day makes for very happy algae. Not necessarily a good thing in your caseCan you cut that cycle back?
I know getting rid of the source is a biggie but it seems to me that you can't find that source, try adding an urchin, mine was only in my tank for 2 days(damn you hermits)but it still plowed through alot of algae in a bigger tank.I know it won't solve the problem but it won't hurt either.
edit:woah just read that you have no cleanup, snails and some starfish(others, detritus) will rid of algae, hermits will kill your snails in search of shells so if you want them, add shells to lessen the killing, and whatever you do, do NOT buy big hermits, they eat what they can get to.Seriously research and add a good cleanup crew, a wide variety is better, and avoid crabs IMO.Also try to get pods and other tiny beneficial creatures because they spread like crazy and are cheap if not free.
and yes, a cleanup crew is a "bandaid" but would it be better to just let it bleed?
ps:avoid politics at all costs on the inernet or you end up with this 98% of the time http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/4622/ia3yp.jpg
Hey all
Any help would be appreciated. Here is a photo of my (current) tank. Problem is STILL algae despite since Aug 8th 2007 addition of a refugium.
Tank parameters: 26 gallon,
SG 1.025,
pH 8.4,
Alk 3.0mg/dl, goes to 2mg.dl,
calcium 135mg/dl,
nitrate 0mg, phosphate 0 (using aquarium systems and salifert-dont know how accurate this is, but the tests are accurate using the reference values for Salifert)
Temp 80.1 degrees F
Change 50% of water a mont or 10 gallons using Petco Sea water..those things are handy
Top off water Cystal rock Premium RO water, with Ca, K and Mg added
Feed the three small fish once every two days a pinch of Prime Reef Flake food.
So whats wrong with my tank and algae. Bryopsis before the refugium , calerpa mexicana.
Some corals do well and others don't...no idea why...
Any suggestions?
Your nitrates and phosphates are locked up in the algae biomass. Could your tank be getting external light that extends the photoperiod?
hmm well ive been thinking(STAND BACK!!, BRAIN MAY GO CRITICAL)and I was thinking you may benefit from investing in an ro unit and mixing the water the old fashion way before spending on a cleanup,if money isnt a problem,do both:biggrin:
