How do we know he's an expert?

Pics are proof;)

Ok see this is how fights start, no one here mentioned that i am an expert on anything. I just said i had a batch of SPS and was looking to diversify my tank. I'll post pics of my frag tank when i finish my epic battle againsts the dreaded hair algae.

And plus i think this thread would be good for reference for the newbies coming in to the club, so they don't have to search all over the place to find some easy LPS to start their reefs with.

No fights...we are discussing.
I didn't assume you were an expert or not. You stated you have SPS but none of us know if you are properly caring for them to say any other coral is easy or not, hence the request for pics.

And plus i think this thread would be good for reference for the newbies coming in to the club,
& that's the exact reason why my post promotes "Reefing in general is not easy"...be it LPS or otherwise.

Edit:
My statement was a response to ellebelle & the correct word I should have used was "experienced" not "expert"
My bad....

For a person who is experienced in keeping SPS, I don't think LPS poses any unique challenges per se.

You have SPS under PC lighting?

:Pics:

I kept some SPS under PC lighting. I put them up really high (about 3" inches from the surface of the water). They grew, but browned out quickly. THey also tended to bleach in the center where the light couldn't quite penetrate properly.

I'm getting better growth and obviously far better color under MH of course. ;)

Assuming ammonia and nitrite levels are undetectable, I'd say once you've stabilized calcium levels at ~400ppm and alkalinity levels between 7-11 dKH. You would be well on your way towards happy LPS...any corals for that matter.

I have loads of Montipora digitata that grows like mad....M. capricornus grows like mad, then at the end of the summer when its seems like it would take over the tank, it dies. I reset the surviving pieces and the cycle starts over again. I also have 3 acro frags and a Pocillopora that are all growing well. I have 4 PC bulbs, 2 10K and 2 actinic, and the SPS are all at the top of the tank, placed about 3-4" below the surface. Some of the Montiporas are poking above the surface. The colors are good, but I don't have any of the intensely colored frags in the first place.
