I just purchased a nano deluxe 12 gallon cube with 2X24w 50/50/ CF Bulbs with 2 nite
Vu Leds. I havent done saltwater for over 10 yrs and with all the improvements iam really starting from scratch. I have a 50w heater, I planning on using live sand and live rock to cycle tank and then slowly add soft corals and a couple of fish and shrimps. Im also going to be getting a RO/DI, and a protein skimmer. LET ME KNOW if this sound s like iit will be a succesful start. also I KNOW PATIENCE IS THE KEY. Im a new member (STATEN ISLAND), and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance

Sounds great. Looks like you have done your homework. Yeah patience is needed. Where on the island are you? I'm on the north shore

Sounds good, use uncured to cycle as it will produce more die off and is cheaper, as for fish I would only put 1 or 2 in that little thing unless you add a sump/fuge.

hey i had my nano dx for 4 years now and i got my gf 1 like 3 years ago they are real easy to keep
take out the bio balls, ceramic rings and add rubble instead it works for me also i buy the catalina water at petco is the easyest wat to do water changes u get about 5gal for 10 bucks not a bad deal also u might want to upgrade the lights as u go along good place to start is nanocustoms.com the cheapest way to do it is to order a whole new hood and u'll end up with 96watts the hood is about 75 bucks and u endup with some spare parts too good luck dude

well.....i would recommend using catelina water if only necesssary like when you first put your water in your tank....i have used the water from death co yes...deathco cause they all suck...anyway...then start making your own Ro/di water then mixing it with salt as soon as you are done cycling.....that water from deathco should only be used for emergencies...that stuff is terrible...says it has 0 phosphates...till i checked it....lets say it was the cause of red slime...invest in an RO/di unit before you get a skimmer...a good skimmer for your tank even thought most people disagree is a sapphire skimmer for the 12 nanocube....i had mine in my 6 and i did water changes ever 2 weeks and still got loads of gunk.....

I use to get saltwater, and RODI top off water from animal kingdom for a couple bucks until i got my RODI unit, but dont use tap water it wll start unwanted algae growth that will be a pain to get rid of. Good luck

Another bump for animal kingdom, I still use their water RODI, fresh or salted w/Instant Ocean $1 a gallon. With only a 12 gallon tank that may make sense for you as well, if you dont want to set up an RODI unit in your house

Thanks guys! I will start with Animal Kingom Water and after a few months of acclimating to the reef's requirements I will start making ro/di water myself.
ALso is the 2x24w 50x50 light that comes with the nano cube 12 good for now to start or should I upgrade ASAP
Thanks
G
