anybody overdrive a aquac ev 120 ?

I know it calls for a mag 5 , my skimmer has been running great for about 6 years I originally got it for my 72 gallon tank but upgraded to a 125 tank about 4 years ago and just kept it . Aqua c says its good for up to 120 gallons but my tank looks awesome and everything is doing well so I figure leave well enough alone. I have noticed the past year I hardly get anything in the collection cup maybe a cup per week at most I have cleaned the air and water intakes and the pump with no difference but my tank is doing great maybe its the religious water changes and small bio load , anyway i figured maybe my pump is getting weak it is at least 6 years old so I tried a mag 9 I have sitting around but its way too powerful I choked it with a valve got lots of skimate wetter than usual but I am just wasting electricity if it is turned down with a valve .
My question is has anybody overdrive a aquac ev 120 with a mag 7 and did it make a difference ? so I know before I go out and buy one for nothing thanks

Manny, When I had a OCTOPUS ps 200 skimmer and modded the venturi and took off the flow reducer I noticed the skimmate was too wet and that there wasnt enough pull on the air to get good dark skimmate, Then using the strong pump and a DIY reducer, I got really good skimmate, and I noticed the venturi getting really loud.

My thought was that reducing the water intake but keeping the powerful pull added to the pull on the airline, resulting in much better skimmate.

I would say try running the mag 7 but reducing the flow and I think you'll get a real good skim, but it will probably effect the life expectancy of the pump.

I had the EV240 for a long time and have seen that they really run better off of external Presure rated pumps. I would run a small Iwaski in stead of the mag.

okay thanks guys I already ordered a mag 7 hope it works either way i can T it off to my phosban reactor that has carbon in it cause at the moment it is gravity fed and is barely getting enough flow

I was wondering how it worked out for you with running the Mag 7 on the EV120, did you have to instal a valve and turn it down or did it work with it wide open? Thanks
