problem with an overflow

long story short, bought an 120 gallon drilled acrylic about three years ago. ran into problems setting up the sump so set it up as a fw tank. ready to do it as sw so here is the problem: the overflow is not big enough to support the drainpipe. anybody have a solution. the pipe will fit in bulkhead but the elbow and strainer will not fit in the overflow. any help appreciated and if i have not explained it properly please let me know. the pictured old strainer was given to me by someone who thought it may be a good replacement but he was NT sure it would work

If you cannot fit the 90 degree elbow in then consider DIY'ing a Stockman overflow:

Is the durso at it's lowest? The're adjustable. Or is the width the problem?

width problem

its a width problem, the tube fits in the bulkhead. it is the top piece (elbow?)and strainer

Did you try putting the elbow and strainer on after you put the pipe into the bulkhead?

yes

yes i did, drainpipe fits but the elbow and strainer aren't even close to fitting. do they make narrow tops that will fit the drainpipe?

You could try and make your own, check out this site it will tell you what you need to customize it.Look under DIY section. www.dursostandpipes.com If that does not work for you you will have to make on like Reefman said. Good luck...
