Hi,
I have small tubular skimmer with an airstone at the bottom in my oceanic 14G tank. This is my first use of skimmer and I have some problems with it.

Currently here is what happens:
1. Skimmer is placed into intake chamber of the biocube.
2. Collection cup is placed on top of the skimmer and closed with cover.
3. Air is turned on.
4. Skimmer fills up with water/foam mix
5. Collection cup fills up with foam mix that later turns back into water/foam mix. The foam is soft and white.
6. As collection cup fills up its cover gets blown off and foam spills over into the second compartment of the biocube, which in my mind defeats the purpose of collecting the foam in the first place

So, first of all, how is it supposed to function?
Second, what am I doing wrong or what do I need to do in order for it to function normally?

Thanks!

I had the Oceanic one that was made for the Biocube. I am assuming yours is custom made?

1. Is there too much turbulence (what air pump do you have on it)?
2. How is the lid on the skimmer secured (it might move or get loose when you close the cover.)
3. Do you have a picture of the set up ( I know you're at work so... at some point haha)

I currently have a JBJ nano 29 that came with a similar protein skimmer, my solution....by a new HOB protein skimmer like the CPR backpack 2. Great skimmers, much more efficient. You might be better served to try a prizm or another HOB better suited for a smaller tank. I do think that the CPR would still be a good choice though.
