Hey Reefer Heads.. Got a few question on start up.
  1. How deep should be bed be. I am thinking 3-4 inch.
  2. How long to I keep my lights on during cycling (Live rock and live sand)
  3. How long to what to add the cleaning crew?
  4. When should I start using my protein skimmer?
  5. I am goind to replace the Ring with Purigen after the cycle (good or bad idea)?
  6. When should I use PhosGuard
Thanks,
Kevin

You are going to get alot of varying opinions on everything.
Heres my .02 ond a deep sand bed.
I have it, and find that it is more trouble than it is worth. It is going to blow around in order to have good circulation in the tank. JMO
If I was going to do it all over again. I would put VERY little sand. Or none at all.
Again JMO
There will also be certain species that you will not be able to keep with a shallow sand bed.
So the more rsearch you do on livestock, the better.
Lights: Your algae bloom will last longer with lights on. Better to keep them off.
I think purigen is a good idea. I had good exp. with it in my AP24 (no skimmer)

I have added 20lbs of meridian sand and 30 lbs of live sand. It ranges from 3 to 4 inches. Goind to add the live rock this weekend. I am going for 20 - 30lbs of fiji cured rock. Any suggestions on a simple RO system? Also looking for a top off system.

Thanks...
