Hello MR. Looking to add a new tank to the current system. Currently have a 150 gal. New tank will be around 450 gallon. Now for the million dollar question, glass or acrylic? Tank dims will be +/-96"L x 36"D x 32"H. I'm looking to get feedback from folks that have acrylic tanks (positive or negative) as well as glass tanks of this size. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Also any suggestions as to good maufacturers?

What do you recommend? Glass or Arcylic ...........................do you want to start a war? you're going to get BOTH answers, as the best/only way to go! I myself, stopped using glass back in the late 80's. I love that fact that I can drill/modify, even move tanks, by my self, and not have to worry about a seam splitting, after the many times that I have emptied and refilled the tanks. I presently have two 130g, a 120g, a 170g and a 150g sump, all acrylic, all operating today. my new 450g is sitting awaiting the stand to be built. You can see most of them on the tank thread 'dream come true setup', or you're welcome to see them in person, if you take a ride to westchester. this latest tank (450) was purchased from glass cages, and I see no problems with it, they did exactly what I asked and delivered it, BEFORE, the original scheduled date. please feel free to page me with any other questions...Alfie

Glass, though go with low-iron starphire or similar glass if you can afford to.

I think I'd go nuts if I had to clean an acrylic tank regularly; I don't want to have to be that careful. ;)

I have an acrylic tank. I am anal, fastideous, neurotic, compulsive and quite careful about not getting too close to the sandbed. I dread the thought of picking up a single grain of sand and scratching my tank.

Ok, now that you have an idea of who I am.....it must have been six years ago that I got the first scratch. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Ok, now that you know I was pissed as all hell about that first scratch, I was anal, fastideous, neurotic, compulsive and quite careful about not getting another scratch in my beautiful, almost perfect acrylic tank. After the second scratch, about a month after the first scratch :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: I decided this was not going to be something I was going to let give me an ulcer (and believe me, it could have).

.........six years later and about 50 more scratches, I no longer want to look at this POS acrylic tank. I'm getting prepared to change over to a nice starphire side and front glass tank.

I'm not sure I've been very clear about this.....I would never, I'm sorry, I mean NEVER, actually, I mean NEVER EVER get an acrylic tank again in my life.

Peace

Best of luck with your new system,
swimmer
