MP20 Question

i have a very stupid question but it's critical to confirm. I bought a used Vortech MP20. The directions clearly indicate a pad is needed between the glass and the dry side. Is that really necessary? I ask because i don't have one. Second question. On the wet side there is a pad between the glass? because the one i got sure does and it's adhere to the wet side. It does not seem right, to have a glued pad in the water.. thanks

the pad on the wet side is supposed to be there.

and there needs to be a plastic pad between glass and dry side motor.
i believe if there is not, the heat from the dry side motor can come in contact with tank glass...

call up eco tech marine .. they can get you one of those pads...

is there no boot on the dry side? there should be with pin spacers that tell you where to place the boot based on the thickness of your glass. Does it not have that??

yes there is a boot on it to adjust based on glass size, appears to be just missing the pad between the glass dry side. I was worried the previous owner put the pad on the wrong side but sounds like wet side has a permanent pad on it too. thanks I'll call the company and see if they can hook me up

the spacer adjustment boot is the pad on the dry side. you don't need anything else.

Thanks you for clarifying. I looked at the directions on line apparently my diagram diagnosing skills are a little weak..

i think there is supposed to be a dry gasket(a piece of rubber padding) between glass and pin spacer. As per diagrams..

last time i sent my vortech in when i spoke to him over the phone he mentioned that i was missing the gasket and included one when mailed it back to me.
i have them both on my mp20 and mp40

Which is designed to put additional space between the wet and dry ends when glass is less than 3/8's I believe -

My glass is 1/2" and I don't use the boot at all - all I use is two spacers

Jim,
when you do not use the pin spacer boot, don't you see the spinning dry side magnet and does it come close to the glass?
I would think that without the boot, you would not use the rubber pad since this can interfere with the exposed spinning magnet.

It is the exact opposite Warren You only need the rubber pad when you don't use the boot (or as Jim described with super thin glass)and you have to use it if you don't use the boot.

i have not owned any vortech besides the gen 2 versions...so i cant speak for you guys who owned them since it came out.. when i spoke to the guy at Vortech about the dry gasket he mentioned nothing about the dry gasket being unnecessary..

This must be something new. The only reason I have the gaskets at all is because the beta models didn't have the adjustable boot and you had to stack a certain number of the gaskets according to your glass thickness. Maybe its an MP20 thing too as I only have the MP 40's, but i can't see why that would be the case.

I don't use the gasket on my MP40w Gen 2 either.
From my understanding the only you should use the gasket is if the tank is too thick and you don't use the pin spacer.
