Hey MR

I have an Odyssea 48" 760W Metal Halide System, I need to ask can I change the ballast's that come with it to Sunlight Supply BLue Wave DUAL 250 w HQI metal halide ballast, without changing the wires in the light that I have?

But they look the same just plug in.

I have the same fixture and I swapped the ballasts but I got IceCap ballasts instead. The fixture should have the C14 connector and the ballast should have the C13 connector, if that's the case you don't need to rewire anything if not maybe you might want to consider selling the ballast you have and get IceCaps so you don't have to rewire. Keep in mind you'll need to change the bulbs too

what's wrong with the ballast that it comes with?
the supplied ballasts are sub-par, and so are the bulbs. it's a good idea to change them out.
be careful to use some window screens to shield some light from the corals for a few weeks. you might burn everything with the new components!

I would also change the wiring within the fixture as there have been reports that the wiring is also poor quality.

I still wouldn't take the chance Steven. I would rather buy a quality light fixture and spend a little more money for some peace of mind.

I've owed 2 of there fixtures a 20" 1x 175W bought it used for my aquapod and the other a 48" 2x 250W HQI this fixture I bought it brand new. Never a problem with either one! On the 48" 2x 250W I had changed the bulbs and the ballast. My opinion its a great fixture for the bucks! I know there were reviews about catching on fire, several years ago when they first came out. I think we should be asking people here on MR who have owned them, what do they think! Just my 2 cents...

For the record I do own one:irked: 72"w/ 3x250mh/pcs/leds

I also refuse to setup my 180 until I get another fixture or change out all the bulbs and ballasts. Just to change out the MH ballasts and lights is going to cost about $650.

Yeah I mean I've had one now for a while and I swapped out the bulbs and ballasts and now it's an awesome fixture. I don't see how it's different than a Coralife once the swap is made, if you think about it turns out to be better and cheaper if you swap with really good ballasts like IceCaps and really good bulbs. Just my opinion....
