Just added sand.. What next?

Guys I JUST added sand, do I turn my koralia 3 n filter (Crappy 10gallon one LMAO!) on now or wait a few days for the sand to settle?!

Btw it's a 40gallon breeder, and I put in 40lbs of live Carbi sand.. The tank is fully foggy, but the sand is at the bottom.. SUPER fine sand btw.

add flow and wait a couple days for the dust to settle. Next, add rock and start aquascaping. Then i presume this is a new system, so you would have to wait for the tank to cycle before adding any livestock.

Well I've already have live rock in the tank for about 3 days now.. I put on filter n hydro n its starting to help alot.. Im shootin the hydro on the top though so the water up top is spitting like crazy!

well then next is the best part. You wait for the tank to cycle! Check your parameters after 2-3 weeks, then continue checking until your parameters are safe to add livestock.

Alrighty buddy, I'm going to Italy Dec. 10th so hopefully when I'm back it should be perfectly cycled! Btw, should I add a CUC before I leave? or just wait the 4 days till im back?

naaah i wouldn't add any CUC. no sense in risking CUC death($). Check your parameter before you leave then after. You have to keep the water level up cause of the evap.

Well the tank won't be lit for those days so evaporate should be low hopefully..

NO reason to keep the tank lit at all during the cycle. Also, what do you mean by "10g Filter" DO you have a sump, or at least plans for a sump? Is this going to FOWLR, or reef?

It's going to be a Reef tank, no sump, no room for one.. I plan on getting an Aquaclear 110 soon and probably turning it into a cheato fuge or just use it as a filter..

I don't need to light the tank AT ALL till i get back from Italy right guys? Bc right now I have nothing to hang the MH off the tank, i'm so mad haha the halide is like 15inches and like 7diameter, it's giant!

You got it! No need for lights while cyclin. No animals so no light besides it will get ambient lighting.
Do get some good test kits before you add animals.

So what are you using to start the cycle? Sand and mixed salt water don't create a cycle in and of themselves. I'd put in 1 or 2 pieces of live rock and then sit back and wait. You might also try to get a bit of live sand from an already established tank. You don't need much, just a pound or so to seed your aquarium.
