Salinity levels for reef tanks

What are safe salinity levels for a reef tank? Im new with reefs so bare with me. Thanks.

do you have to run a higher salinity for a reef tank vs a tank just with live rock?

around 1.025 to 1.026 were i keep mine

Inverts will be sluggish at 1.018 and below that they will start to die. Natural salinity in the reefs average 1.025 to 1.026
If you only have a fowlr tank (live rock and fish), you can keep your salinity at about 1.021 to 1.022

I keep my salinity at 1.027, for a mixed reef...I thought sea water was 1.027


Lower salinity(FOWLER TANKS) is cheaper(less salt) and is safer(bacteria/infections have a hard time thriving in lower salinity)

Reef tanks need a higher salinity than FOWLER tanks
