The purpose of this thread is to list tools that you have and are willing to SHARE with members of the MR community. Please post tools that you'd be willing to lend other reefers so that they can save some money and still get a project done. Post whatever you have -- many of us live in apartments and don't have extensive tool kits or equipment and only discover a need for such tools for reef-related projects!

If you see a tool that you would like to use, please PM the owner. If you do end up borrowing tools please take care of them and if you mess them up do the right thing and replace them so that members will remain willing to lend their tools for the benefit of the MR community!

Thanks to all who are willing to help!

I'll start:

1. 300 Series Dremel high speed rotary tool ( 5k - 35k rpm)

2. 40 Piece Ratchet & Socket set (from largest of 9/16 inch socket down to 5/32 inch socket; also metric sockets)

3. Adjustable Hand Wrench

4. Hammer, Screwdriver (all standard screw types; separate 'eyeglasses' sized screwdriver)

5. Wire stripper / wire-cutters (from 10-22 AWG)

This is a great post and thing to have on MR. But, i think people should not be looking for fragging tools here. At all.

This should be a list of tools for tank maintenance and/or projects. Tools that your only going to use maybe once a year or two, that are oddball and serve no other purpose other than their intended use. If you need to redo your plumbing and need a pipe cutter, something to tighten weird sized bulkheads, maybe a jigsaw to make a hole or cut something off. If you need tools to build a stand or hood, or to do lighting, like wire strippers, maybe a volt meter. Maybe its some offset tool like a par-meter or a hanna PH meter. Hole saws, socket sets, allen keys, ect.

Dremels are real easy to find, and will run you about 40$ new, as low as 15$ used. And the diamond bit costs 15$. If your fragging, your usually selling, so price isn't an issue here. Another thing is bone cutters that are sold at the swaps.

And if your handy or not you should have a small sized toolbox with the basics in your apt because stuff happens and its always useful. A hammer, screw driver both philips and flat, a pair of pliers and maybe a channel lock. All those tools will cost you about 20$ at a flea market or those trading company contracting tool/material stores all over queens and brooklyn that have been popping up. And you can do 99% of any emergency repair on your tank with those tools alone.

tosiek -- thanks for your post and offering to help with wood/ply cutting and sizing.

I too am hoping someone will be willing to share a PAR meter, multimeter, high quality soldering iron, etc.
