Hey everybody, just wanted to drop in and shoot out a blog about my new Nano tank I set up. I am new to reef tanks and saltwater in general. I have been researching and hiding out in saltwater aquarium stores all over Long Island for the past year now. I have a 10 gal. nano tank with about 15 lbs. live rock and live sand. After I let it cycle , I slowly added some cleaners. I have 3x hermit crabs, 1 emerald crab, 3 snails, 1 fire shrimp and two damsels. All of which were placed in the tank in intervals not all at once. Last week I added some coral so I now have 4 zoa's, 1 kenya tree, 1 star polyp cluster and some mushrooms. I feed the damsels pellet food but they are very finicky eaters in my tank so I was wondering if I could pull from the experience to figure out exactly what I should feed them. Also, I supplement the tank with Part A & B nano mixture from kent, Purple up ( I have no coralline algae) and give the coral phytoplankton mixture from kent. Well, I hope I didn't bore too many readers out there and if I did well I guess I got to buy you a beer LOL. I'm just looking to pick the brains of all the knowledge out here on LI. Thanks for reading.

you'll learn love it, the only problem, this hobby is as bad as getting in to any drugs, is highly addictitive espicially the livestocks that some vendors + members has to offer. "most" marine fish are wild caught, sometime is diificult to get them to eat dry food, try frozen mysis, if that dosn't work, try live brine. Since you are new to the hobby, the key is to be patient, take your time on adding your livestock, check your water frequent. One last thing, since you are in LI, I've been to most stores there. Recently I found Tropical Island to be the best "value" store for marine livestocks, guy(Michael) carries amazing corals, never seen anything like it.

welcome to MR and thank you for serving our country.
ok before we can help you we need more info on your tank, what equiptment do you have ? lights, power heads ect ? how long has the tank been running ? get rid of the damsels. what are you using to measure salinity ? what type of water for top off ? sink or from ro-di unit ? throw the purple up in the trash also. and what test kits do you have or are using, dont dose anything you havent tested for. hobby is pretty easy once you learn the basics and have the right equiptment

wecome to the site and hobby man good luck. Once you are in man you are in. Just like bizarrecorals said this hobby is as bad as getting in to any drugs, But in a good way and once you get everything going all you want to do is get more and more, bigger and bigger. I started out with a 30gal and 3 tanks later up to a 72 Gal Bow.

As far as food I use to have this problem also, but is gone now. Try New Life Spectrum Marine Fish Formula and also put in the food 2 drop of Kent Marine garlic XTreme and that will work.....This food and the garlic cost a little bit more, but is the best I have try and let me tell you I have tried about almost everything ...
Once more welcome A NEW REEFFER HAS BEEN BORN! :smash:
