Coral plug

I just purchased a mushroom on a plug. Should I take it off of the plug before placing in my tank?

It depends on what you want.
Many people like having their corals attached to something other than their rock so if they need to move things around it can be done easily, but their are others who like a natural look and remove the coral off plugs.
IMO coral that is attached to rubble makes the best way to keep the natural look with accessibility, but in your case I would leave the mushroom on the plug since it will eventually cover it.

if it is attached to the plug then I would leave it alone and let it gorw on the plug

once you take it off the plug, if you don't do it right, it may not attach to anything, or even worse, you won't see it anymore.

Don't take soft corals off their plugs.
