RO/DI Booster pump

My water pressure for my ro/di unit is terrible! please, can someone recommend a booster pump that is simple to install.

booster pumps do not work. You will have about the same through put after you install it. Google a review on those before you buy.

Booster pumps absolutely DO work for their intended purpose. They do not increase supply flow, they increase supply pressure...which is important when pushing water through a RO membrane.

Thanks all - the consensus is aquatec 8800 - I'll start looking for product reviews and prices.

the aquatec is the standard RO booster pump, as far prices go you will have to research that....just remember that you have to purchase the power supply separately unless stated it is included.

It abso;utley makes a difference. My tap is about 40 = 45 psi. Using the booster ti 70 psi decreases the time by anout 40 - 50% even this time of year.
The pump does chatter when first turned on but that goes away after a few minutes.

Absolutely works. RO/DI Booster Pumps are the only way I can produce any water. Before pump my psi is 40. After Booster Pump it is just shy of 80 psi.

Another vote for the Aquatec 8800. Best booster pump on the market, IMO.

Whether or not you need a booster pump has nothing to do with the size of your tank. The sole factor determining your need of a booster pump is the amount of pressure you have coming from the source of your RO/DI filter water supply. If the pressure is too low, it won't be able to 'push' through the filters efficiently. Adequate pressure is between 70-80 psi.

it all depends on your water pressure (since the other factor you can't control...temperature of your cold water). where i live, we have well water which has a pressure of approximately 40-60 psi which fluctuates with the volume of water being used. you probably have municipal water which generally have higher pressure. you will need to buy an ro/di with an attached pressure gauge to be able to constantly monitor your pressure at the membrane.
and as masterswimmer stated, it's the amount of water you need to produce in a given amount of time. just like everything else in this hobby, manufacturer rating is for the"optimum" condition. with pressure less than 65-80 psi, a 75 gpd ro/di unit will produce much less water per day than stated (perhaps only 40-80%). if your ro/di is only used for the tank (not for home use...cooking/drinking), assuming you only need 30 gal. a week (15 gal. top off and 15 gal. water change) and you have the ro/di unit plumbed to a holding tank/container (not hook up to a sink when you need water), you won't need a booster pump. the booster pump cuts down the time you need to produce water. so even if your pressure is low, like well water, you can still produce the total volume of your tank in just about 2 days.

You need a booster pump if your tap pressure is in the 40psi range. The membrane (Filmtec) works best at 60 - 75 psi with a water temp over 50 degrees (not sure of the temp).
So it depends on your situation as to wether or not you need one.

BTW, I was able to produce RODI water in the winter with aprx 45psi tap water, but it took about twice as long.

RO works best at pressure between 60-90psi and 70 degrees, if your pressure is below that you should consider a booster pump otherwise your RO will not work produce water as it should.
