Help! Algea

I was away and now i have returned to a tank full of algea. The glass is full of brown spots and the substrate has some hairy brown stuff on it. Please help me before something happens to the tank inhabitants.

How long where you away for? And did you leave the light on the whole time? Eather way kill the light, and do a 10% water change, and make sure the proten skimmers working right. At least that's what o would

i did not leave the light on but did leave it in the sun. It kinda looks like brown hairs.

Fix the water parameters. What are they at ( Specifically Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, Phosphate)? What size tank? do a water change and pluck.siphon it out.

The water parameters are on target, ammonia 0, nitrite 0,nitrate 0, phosphate?
36 gal tank. 3 months old.

a tank at 3 months will start to show signs of hair algae, do you have a cleanup crew

I had the same problem. Found that the phosphates were off the charts! Did a 20 % water change and rinsed the bio balls and bags for a few days...and all gone!
