help setting a clean up 75 skimmer

I have a clean up 75 skimmer and i am having trouble setting it up it is in the sump when i turn it on i set the water line in the skimmer to where it says it should be but the cup just fills up with water then i have to dump it after 10-15 minutes, how long before i notice the skimmer doing anything useful and i dont have to keep dumping tank water back into the sump? or am i doing something wrong ?

I'm not familiar with that particular skimmer but most have an adjustment knob of some sort that will adjust how much skimmate it produces. Try adjusting the skimmer so that it pulls thick foam and not all water, its hard to say without pics of the unit but it does sound like it needs to be adjusted properly.
