red sea c-skim 1200 help

hey guys..i need some help..i have the red sea c-skim 1200 on my 72 sps, lps, softies, tank. does anyone know how to really really tune this skimmer to producing skimmate? ive had it for so long and all it ever produces is a foamy substance that looks like a bubble bath..is this how its supposed to be? ive had it for months just never really got around to FULLY understanding how it works..if anyone has any experience..please let me know..ive read every article online about it..but none really tell me how to tune it..thanks..
