cleaning/maintenance on a tunze 9002?

hi all, i set up my tunze 9002 in my solana around 3 weeks ago. the cup fills about half way each week. so my question is this...every monday i normally empty it and thoroughly clean it with water and a piece of filter i cut...should i be fully cleaning it? or leave the build up in the tube and cup?

only wondering because i dont know if its counter productive to clean it so well.

You should be cleaning the cup thoroughly.
Any skimmate that you leave behind is technicaly still in your tank and the water is touching it, even while it is filling the cup.
